Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Heh... okay, so here's the danger of ordering parts online... this is the same place I bought from before, but I guess I must have missed something, because the 68 ohm resistors are HUGE, I mean gargantuan, like 3/4 inch long... and the 2.2k resistors appear from the color codes to actually be 10k o...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.
it’s bugging me why the game doesn’t execute "JOY1&3" in the “spaceorb.cfg”.
Hmm, that's weird all right. Wonder if you need to do some unbinding somehow. I'll get precision working this weekend, although the parts maaay not get here for stuffing a board and verifying the thing. H...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.
It’s great that you’ll try the precision mode, the Orb needs it for aiming badly. I’m looking forward to giving it a try.
Sounds like a plan. Probably won't happen until mid-weekend (it won't take long to do at all; I'm just a bit busy) but should be straightforward.
The chordi...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

And in other news... well, here's my weekend sorted: I've taken the liberty of ordering enough parts to stuff all these. I'll do one first, and if it works I'll just stuff the rest while I'm in production mode, UNLESS you want the jollie...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Sure, we'll try the precision-mode thing; it was bugging me that it's not in yet. But let's get chording working first. Before HL2 configuration, what's it doing in the control panel applet?
Now tell be if wrong about “chording”. Using chording the Orb till has the 6 button binds as normal an...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.
Chording would be great if you decide to try it. I have used the chording with the Orb in the past when I played games and I am sure others have also. I think Jay had button chording in some of his game patches
Oh, it's in place already actually. Um, lemmesee here... yep, go to Basi...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.
I checked ebay tonight and almost purchased a SpaceBall 4000 FLX, I didn’t because I noticed they are made by different manufacturers, HP and IBM. The picture you have posted looks like HP SpaceBall 4000. Do the HP and the IBM work the same way? The IBM is cost less but I don’t know if it wor...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.
I couldn’t find your “spaceorb.cfg” file on your post so I copied your commands into notepad and saved them as spaceorb.cfg in the Steam HL2 cfg folder as you instructed.
Yep... as typical, I forgot to attach it and remembered halfway through the day. But you did exactly the right th...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Aw, man... sorry, Ron, I was forgetting the all-important "joyadvancedupdate", which makes all the axis mappings work. Silly me! There were some other important bits too. So, here's the first "game config" for the orbshield; fitting that it's HL2 actually, as HL1 was the first thing I did with Hidsp...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Heh, fear not--I'll just reinstall HL2 ("no, don't make me play video games!") and play with it there.

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Ah, sorry, Ron--I keep forgetting that I've been doing this over and over for a few weeks. When I casually said "ignore the comments when typing them in of course" I forgot that you may not know that // denotes a comment in the console. So anyway, just leave out the // (that may or may not be confus...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Heh--no worries, Ron; Monday nights and weekends are pretty much the only times I can work on this, so was just working within my schedule and wanted to get something done before the weekend (and this was bugging me, not having the sensitivity curves in). Take your time; we're mostly waiting on boar...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Okay, new update (same deal as old; remove the SpaceOrb file from hardware/libraries, remove sketches, install these two zips). Changes: Added gain and sensitivity. The way this works is that the orb puts out a value -512 to +512. This is then changed a few times:

Polarity swaps this value...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Hm, ok. I'm not totally surprised by HL2 being a bit confused, but I'm testing with L4D which is essentially the same engine, and I have TF2 here which is about the same as well. To get the orb to work you'll almost certainly have to use the console and/or write a CFG file. I'll try to add the respo...

Re: The ultimate orb solution, at last.

Good stuff! Though you're not done with feedback yet :D . Try HL2 (configuration is a PAIN by the way, but doable), and I'm very curious to know what you think of the scaling... what I mean is that the orb and the original hidsporb driver had a cubic scaling via the sensitivity curve and this is mor...
