I think what he did is, 512 being the center, anything below 255 becomes the minus direction (512 - 256), and anything above 768 (512 + 256) is the plus direction. Anything between 256 to 767 becomes the "null region".

every piece of info I have found so far tells me all of these are 10 bit resolution. I did find schematics of sorts for the Spaceorb 360 and Magellan, and a few others as well, by doing a patent search. I took one of my 360's apart, the ball part quit working. I have the color code for the ball sens...

ok, quick question, has anyone thought about using the analog inputs of the ATmel uController to read the optical sensors directly, and output a SpaceOrb360 compatible data stream, or a HID stream, up the USB port, bypassing the original transistors/chips on the original board?
