It's not very hard to solder the board, if you can get one.
Just need a simple soldering iron.
Otherwise, maybe see if you can find some high school electronics person, who would solder it for you for $20 ?

Re: Skyrim Spaceball 4000 FLX ,Microsoft Trackball Explorer
I mapped the WASD in Skyrim to the Spaceball 4000.
So I gues it's not true analog control as you are wanting.
I found that if I used "Always Run", the spaceball and trackball combination worked quite well.
My goal was to eliminate the keyboard, and I suceeded in that for almost every key press.

Skyrim Spaceball 4000 FLX ,Microsoft Trackball Explorer
I have found the ultimate gaming set up for Skyrim.
Spaceball 4000 FLX with OrbShield and a Microsoft Trackball Explorer
Also a reclining gaming chair.
Think of Lawnmower man chair, with 2 side tables, left hand side is Spaceball 4000, right hand side is Microsft Trackball Explorer.
No need to ...

This is a link to SpaceMouse Cursor tool.
With this software I was able to get SpaceMouse, SpaceBall, and SpaceOrb 360, assigned to keyboard buttons.
You can map any button or Axis movement to a Key on your keyboard.
I had to use 2.82 3DConnexion drivers.

I couldn't even get the sketches to compile on anything but Arduino 018
Maybe double check what sketches you are using
It sounds like it may be the UNO board
Well it's proven working on Duelmilanove board
So you might have to go that route

I'm a new convert to SpaceOrb, SpaceBall, SpaceMouse.
Got them working in part thanks to this Discussion board, and vputz's Orbshield.

Re: OrbShield to Arduino Interface questions - seeking raw d
I know this post is kind of old,
but for the Spaceball 4000FLX you have to have both dip switches 1 and 2, ON.
That's in Vic Putz's information here :

Re: Orbshield Not Working
I got it through Amazon, and it was eligible for Super Saving shipping, but you have to buy at least $25.
So I found something else cheap to order to make my order at least $25.
It shipped in about 1 week.

Re: Status of Orbshields, 16 Jan 2011
Wanted to post that I ordered and built an Orb Shield V1.0 in March 2012.
Got the kit in about 2 weeks, and built in 1 hour.
Got everything working, my challenges were mostly COM port related, as well as Key Button mappings.
I posted in another thread my tips.
Thanks to Vic Putz for the Orb ...

I also picked up a used Space Navigator and Space Pilot USB on Ebay.

I am going to post the links I used.
While this may be old info for some, it took me a while to find all this.
Here are the links I used.
This the one that got me started. However he used Arduino 019, which I couldnt get to work.... I had to use 018.
